Standard Bank Malawi Donates K50 Million Worth of Books to National Library Service
Today, the National Library Service (NLS) proudly received a donation of books valued at K50 million from Standard Bank of Malawi, marking a significant step towards strengthening a reading culture and supporting local authors.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mlangazua Chigaru highlighted that the donation is part of the bank’s Joy of the Arts programme, now in its third year, which promotes arts, culture, and youth development across Malawi. He further noted that K10 million of the donation was intentionally allocated to locally authored books to support Malawian writers and preserve cultural identity.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the institution, Board Chairperson Brian Sitima Ndau described the contribution as a meaningful investment in the nation’s future. He emphasized that the diverse collection—ranging from primary and secondary school materials to tertiary and general reading books—will enhance access to knowledge for learners and the general public alike.
The NLS has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the donated books are distributed across its network of 17 branches, allowing communities across Malawi, including those in remote areas, to benefit from this initiative.
This partnership reflects a shared vision of building an informed, literate, and empowered nation through access to knowledge.
